The momentum continues…
On February 28th Phillip Walter was named as part of a positive movement towards changing how government works.
Phil has been fighting for years to bring the facts about spending by our Village Board out in the open. Now it looks like the Daily Herald agrees.
In the February 24th Daily Herald news article, Phillip Walter was quoted "if Arlington Heights officials truly want a transparent government, they'd post all village bills and contracts on the village's website. It would be a tremendous positive for residents to see what their village government is spending their money on," he said. "Trustees already get this information on an (Microsoft) Excel Spreadsheet, so it shouldn't be that difficult."
DuPage Auditor Bob Grogan is the first in the state of Illinois to place all county expenditures online. He has said that by doing so he is saving employee time because it will cut down on Freedom of Information Act requests.
Walter said he wants "every bill, every week" published on the village's website.
"Right now we are in the middle of a very tough budget where we are letting people go," said Mulder, who is running for her fifth term against Walter. "It's easy to bring things up and it's a good idea but I'm not sure it's the right moment."
Well when is the right time for government transparancy? Walter believes there isn't a better time than now.
